Portsmouth, NH – Northeast Credit Union (NECU) is proud to announce its continued strong support of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard through a $1,500 donation to the Shipyard's "Family Day" held on Sunday, October 3. Hundreds of Portsmouth Naval Shipyard employees and their families gathered to celebrate the Shipyard's 100 years of dedication to submarine progress.
Northeast Credit Union is proud of its long-standing history which began at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard almost 80 years ago. Northeast Credit Union was originally established as Portsmouth NH U.S. Employees Federal Credit Union #1515 when 10 individual members - each subscribing to one share started the credit union. Today, NECU remains committed and dedicated to Shipyard employees with a branch located directly at the yard.
"In 1936, this credit union was established by a group of hard working shipyard employees who valued the core of our mission and that is people helping people," said Timothy Collia, NECU President & CEO. "We remain committed to the Shipyard's employees and their families by offering accessible financial services with a dedicated branch location at the shipyard. We have also created financial assistance programs designed specifically for federal employees. Most recently during the Government Shutdown in 2013. Those same programs were prepped earlier this month in case the Government shut down as proposed. Luckily that wasn't the case, but if it had, we would have a program in place."
"PNSY was very grateful for the funding provided by NECU which helped make our "Family Day" a huge success," said Commander, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Captain William Greene. "It was a pleasure having them as part of our celebration marking the 100th anniversary of the shipyard's support of our nation's submarine force."
